Oracle of Omaha Endorses Obama. Say That Three Times Fast

Warren_buffettOnce staunchly neutral in the race for the democratic presidential nominee, Warren Buffett, aka the "Oracle of Omaha," has endorsed Barack Obama for president.

Nothing tickles (yes, that's the right word) me more than to see the richest man in the world endorse a democrat for president.

Warren Buffett, legendary Wallstreet soothsayer, investor extraordinaire. Grown men pay $250,000 just to have lunch with the guy. Most of those suits are republican. Did you know your idol is a lifelong democrat? Yup.

Newsflash: You can be a very rich man and still be a democrat. The two are not exclusive.

Punctuation and grammar have always been secondary on this blog but please capitalize political parties. Drives me nuts.

Anon, lighten up Dude (or is an anonymous character a lowercase dude). These blogs are hobbies.

By the way, it is not gramatically correct to capitalize the word democrat or republican unless it's before a proper name. So, you'd capitalize Republican John McCain, but not John McCain is running for the republican presidential nomination. I even asked our copy writer at work, and she agreed. By the way, sometimes I don't capitalize republican even when I'm supposed to, because I'm ornery. :~)

Is always interesting that sporie gets so enamored with his declarations that he posts them twice.

Certainly can't disagree with your copy writer but I got in the habit of capitalizing the political parties mainly because of the many crossovers of the terms Democratic and democratic. There is no similar confusion with Republican but I capitalize it as well, perhaps out of a fairness, equal time presentation, but more likely just for consistency.

It is, in either case, a bit peevish to worry about. To sporie's point, oh God that's painful, the blogs, for most of you, are done on the fly. Posts are not intended to reflect the English usage we expect from professionals. Communicating ideas in the time available is the goal.

In certain instances precise grammar is important but we all remember those nitpicky English teachers and their checkmarks and red circles and payback can be so fulfilling.
