The White House Project, an organization dedicated to advancing female leadership presence in all aspects of society, up to and including the White House, is holding a leadership conference in New York City June 20-22. In cooperation with O Magazine, the organization is looking for women who already demonstrate leadership in their own communities, and will give them additional training to make their ideas a reality.
I applied for a chance to be there, though I think it will be a long shot. More than 3,000 women have applied last time I heard. There are a lot of bright women out there, but I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by.
Regardless of whether I get included or not, the idea of the conference/training is simple: Equip women with leadership potential with the skills they need to succeed. In many areas, especially business and politics, women are at a disadvantage. Many don't have the networks they need to succeed. This gathering should take care of that for the lucky 80 who get chosen.
