In a story that has more legs than a centipede, the facts are sometimes overlooked. In the run-up to the Iowa Caucus, republicans in the state predicted that allowing voters to register the same night at the caucus site would produce a voter fraud disaster. In fact, this argument was used for years in the Iowa legislature by republican obstructionists who predicted dire consequences for allowing same-day voter registration.
The numbers are in: Less than 1.5% of the 22,673 new voter registration cards that were mailed to new registrants were nondeliverable. Meaning? There was no widespread voter fraud in the Iowa Caucuses. The 1.5% rate is well within the normal rejection rate. It could even be explained simply that a few hundred people have moved since then.
I personally think that republicans know they are in huge trouble this year and are looking for any excuse they can to keep disenfrancised voters away from the polls. This new data should put to rest any worry that non-resident voters are trying to rush the ballot box.
