My dear friend Gordon Fischer got caught in his own trap yesterday, succumbing to the negativism that has characterized the Obama campaign rhetoric in recent weeks.
He wrote a post on his Web site (it's not a blog, because he doesn't allow comments)that compared Bill Clinton to Joe McCarthy and brought up the "blue dress" incident of the Clinton impeachment. Those are two historical events that I've personally heard enough about to last the entire rest of my life. When they are brought up, it's usually by a Fox News anchor who is trying to draw attention to himself and ingratiate himself to a rabid republican base, who can't seem to get enough of this type of blithering bullcrap.
Gordon has rightly replaced the rant with an apology, and asked for forgiveness. But since no press is bad press, I'm sure Senator Obama's campaign still values Gordon's endorsement and feverish Clinton bashing. As I posted the day before this happened, I cannot believe the Clinton bashing that has taken place during this primary. It reminds me of the job that George W. Bush did on John McCain during the 2000 primary cycle. Not pretty to watch.
My advice to any online political commentator: Open up blogs to comments. The readers and commenters on blogs will keep you in line and let you know when you've crossed it.

"... succumbing to the negativism that has characterized the Obama campaign rhetoric in recent weeks..."
Note: This is my personal opinion and I am not voting for anyone in this election.
I disagree that the Obama campaign has been 'negative' because it made a statement following Bill Clinton's statement. Why can't Bill Clinton make clean statements that do not infer 'negativity' about his wife's rival? I think it was only apt for Gordon to have pointed out so that Clinton can see that he is not any clean either -- maybe worse!
I think people should learn to take the log out of their eyes before trying to help another with the speck in their eyes!
Finally, Clinton has always been negative -- this was her trick for Texas and Ohio but I am surprised people did not see it that way! Her ads, her statement ("shame on you B..."), racial comments from her supporters (the latino woman), bend the rules in Michigan and Florida (why make a rule/law if it counts for nothing and can be manipulated if you are on the wrong side?) and so on completely places her as the most negative, least respected and electable candidate.
It is plain she is desperate and will do anything just to be president! Can't everyone see she's so ambition-driven and will do ANYTHING even if she has to pull anyone down to just to realize this personal ambition?
