Human rights groups are mobilizing once again to help a woman who has been sentenced to death by beheading for supposedly being a "witch." This is only months after another woman was spared lashings and a prison sentence for retrieving a photo from a high school friend, and making the mistake of sitting alone with him.
As my mother might have asked me when I was young, "Why would you want to hang around and associate with such people?" The American people could probably ask President Bush that.
We all know the answer is oil. Saudi Arabia is the largest producer of oil in OPEC. Nevermind that half of its own citizens don't have the right to vote, drive a car, or leave their homes without a male relative.
I guess we are in relatively good company though, since we're one of the only civilized countries on earth that still allows our own citizens to be executed by the state. Maybe we aren't such strange bedfellows after all.
