I've been doing a lot of phoning for Hillary this week. Most of her supporters are women, no doubt about that. But a few of her harshest critics are women. I've heard a lot of "Hill-bashing" this week and I'm putting my top ten out here today to combat some of the negativity. Take a read and see if these don't address some of your concerns.
Top Ten Reasons Why Iowans Should Caucus for Hillary Clinton:
1. She is smart. With the lack of brains in the current president, our country needs to renew a commitment to electing a smart person instead of a bumbling idiot.
2. Hillary is experienced. In her eight years as First Lady and seven years in the U.S. Senate, she has a mix of experience that can't be beat. Not to mention her years as a lawyer, First Lady of Arkansas, and serving as an attorney during the Watergate trial.
3. Hillary is commited to children and families. She served as a staff attorney for the Children's Defense Fund even before she married Bill Clinton. In subsequent years, as she became a young mother herself, her work on behalf of children was obviously a priority.
4. Hillary and Bill worked out their marital problems. One of the most astounding things I hear from women is that "Hillary should have dumped Bill." I've got news for you...staying together is the hard road. And she took it. She loves the guy, plus they have history and a child together. Anyone can get a divorce. They took the less traveled path and got counseling.
5. Hillary has a vast knowledge of the inner workings of the federal government. She won't need a remedial course in how the departments of the federal government work when she takes over in January, 2009. That means she can begin leading from day one.
6. Hillary has vision. She doesn't just plan to wait for bad things to happen (Katrina, for example)...she will put the right people in place to prevent predictable tragedies.
7. Hillary is not soft on terrorism. She will continue to fight terrorism, but not by getting the U.S. involved in invasions of terrorist countries.
8. Hillary has been a working mother her entire adult life. She knows what it's like to have the babysitter call in sick when you have an important day ahead.
9. Hillary will fight for improved health care coverage. She learned some big lessons from her first attempt at health care reform and now has a more realistic plan to provide coverage for all Americans.
10. Hillary is widely respected and well-known around the world. She won't have to use flash cards to learn the names of foreign leaders.
