This morning in the Des Moines Register, John Edwards is being tied to the subprime lending debacle by his consulting work for Fortress, a company that is currently forclosing the mortgages of more than 100 Iowans.
I took this photo on the day that I decided that I could no longer support Edwards for president. It makes me sad, because I know that Edwards is a good person. But at some point, when you talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. When your main campaign platform is poverty, then you should not build a 28,000 square foot house, while writing a book called "Home" that has a picture of your very modest childhood home.
And, you should make damn sure that a $400 dollar haircut does not happen.
Tom Beaumont called me last week to ask me about Edwards involvement with Fortress, which by itself does not concern me, but coupled with the house and the haircuts, is disturbing.
It's very sad that only millionaires run for president in this country anymore. Bill Clinton was the last president who wasn't one when he won.
