Alan Greenspan, in his new book, “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World," notes that his favorite president out of the last six was Bill Clinton. In an interview on 60 minutes last night, he described that he admired Clinton's intellect, interest in the economy and grasp of financial markets.
In contrast, he slammed the first President Bush for publicly flogging him for not lowering interest rates before he lost the election to Clinton. He also has very stark and sad words for his old friends Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. When George W. was elected, at first he looked forward to working with his cohorts, but quickly realized that the Bush White House had politicized everything. He also admitted that his comments praising Bush's tax cuts were taken out of context and used against him later.
In a short but telling remark, he also said: Let's face it, the war was about oil. Period.
Alas, even though Greenspan and I share the same favorite president, when Leslie Stahl asked him if he was supporting Hillary Clinton, he said he'd be voting Republican next year.
