Democrats Set to Gain Solid Senate Majority in '08

Proud_democrat2008 is setting itself up to be a perfect storm for the democrats in the U.S. Senate election. Republicans are defending 22 seats compared to 12 for the democrats. The right side of the aisle is also losing several senators to retirement and scandal, while the democratic attrition thus far is ZERO. Due to the continuing anti-war sentiment. republicans in traditionally democratic states, such as John Sununu of New Hampshire and Susan Collins of Maine are in big trouble. Norm Coleman (R-Minnesota) is also on a slippery slope. His state's experimentation with a republican senator and governor is looking like a bad mistake.

Robin Toner over at the NY Times has a comprehensive analysis of the likely gains to be made by democrats in the 2008 election. You must register for this site, but it's worth it. The Times has been doing a great job covering just about every angle possible this cycle.

Claire,
I'm an independent who is open to, and frustrated with, the views and actions of both sides of the aisle. If you honestly feel that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are doing an admirable job in leading the Democratic majorities, you are more disillusioned than I thought. Your "blank check" to the Dems needs to be cashed in for a "reality check"!

I reread my post to see if I could figure out what you were talking about. I didn't mention anything about the job that Pelosi or Reid were doing. All I am pointing out are the mathematical realities of the 2008 race.

Since you think the NY Times is doing an excellent job, why dismiss their article about Ms. Clinton's links to Gupta, Infosys and the call lists they create?

Suit Sheds Light on Clintons’ Ties to a Benefactor
By MIKE McINTIRE"

I have read all of the coverage about Hillary Clinton and her ties to Info and the fundraising guy. So far, I find it all pretty unremarkable. I think the republicans are desperate for a scandal to take the public's attention away from the pathetic republicans. If they can prove that Hillary violated any ethics rules, then that would be a story. Until then, I won't be blogging about it.

OK I see. Morally reprehensible and exploitative businesses are ok as contributors, even if they make that money helping defraud the elderly and cancer and Alzheimers' patients. Just as long as the contributions are legal? Ok I got it now. Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh, I'm not a Republican and not trying to create a Hillary Scandal. She is certainly not doing anything illegal. She's too smart for that. It's just kind of disgusting, kind of like investing in tobacco, guns, booze and gambling, or maybe just Halliburton.
