Hillary Clinton's comment during a speech to the VFW in Kansas City, when she shamefully bought into the current guilty talking point, "The Surge is Working" is coming back to haunt her.
First of all, make no mistake. "The Surge" is NOT working. If the goal is to "win" this godforsaken war, then that goal most certainly is as distant as Pluto. The surge technique, which should have been the standard when we marched in five years ago, is too little, too late. Period. And the levels of violence in other parts of the country that were supposedly "secure and handed over to the Iraqis" are now bursting into violence on a daily basis.
Southern Iraq, which has largely been the domain of the British, is slipping back into the sectarian violence that plagues the rest of the country.
The Kurdish North, which was relatively peaceful in recent months, has experienced an unwelcome surge of its own: a surge of violence and senseless killing.
The democratic candidates, especially Hillary Clinton, should not be talking about our puny bandaid of a surge as a victorious tactic. Lay it on us straight...we need to get the hell out of there. The sooner the better.
The VFW audience needed to hear one other thing: The war was NOT worthy of your sacrifice. It is up to the president to keep you out of harm's way, and he did not do that. So democrats need to step up and do just that.
