Dr. Richard Carmona, Surgeon General under the Bush Administration, is speaking out about the stiffling influence of politics on the decision-making process during his tenure.
The New York Times covers it well this morning. The line that made me turn cold was,"Dr. Carmona was told to mention George W. Bush at least three times on every page of every speech he delivered."
Dr. Carmona was discouraged from writing reports on stem cells, emergency contraception, sex education, prison, global mental health issues and even second-hand smoke.
He was discouraged from attending the Special Olympics because the Kennedy family has long been associated with the organization. A senior official asked,"Why would you want to help those people?"
References to taboo subjects such as stem cell research and providing prisoners better health care were removed from his speeches.
Carmona is one of a long line of former Bush administration officials who have publicly aired their grievances after serving under the George W. Bush regime. I just wish that someone would have listened to all these people before we elected this moron again.
