Earlier this week, Pope Benedict pronounced that,"Jesus only created one church" and therefore the rest of you peeps are not getting into heaven. I am paraphrasing a bit here, but this is exactly the reason that I believe religion is the most corrosive force on earth.
Just when I thought no one could possibly top "Eggs" Benedict for the most outrageous move, a "christian" couple visiting the senate chamber interrupted a Hindu man who was offering an innocous blessing during the opening ceremony.
The couple took it upon themselves to yell at the man twice during his short prayer. The couple, members of the conservative group Operation Save America, can be heard in the background of this You Tube video:
How awful! This type of behavior is precisely why people fear (and not as in respect) religion. I don't even like to use the word when refering to my spirituality because of the negative connotation associated. He was very patient and well composed despite the situation.
