Bush's Insane Iraq Perceptions

Bush_cowboy_cartoonGeorge Bush is an insane cowboy, riding his pony through the world and our national discourse, seemingly deaf to the shouts of anger, immune to the rocks and garbage being thrown his way. He is the president who lives in a bubble of his own creation. And it's not the bubble of the presidency itself, it's the bubble in his own head.

This morning I had to laugh when I read the Huffington Post preview:

According to Bush's scorecard, progress on eight of the 18 benchmarks set by Congress in May has been "satisfactory," on another eight it has been "unsatisfactory," and two are too close to call.

And this, according to the president, "is a cause for optimism."

That's like a doctor telling you that while your child has shiny hair he also has a brain tumor -- and you coming away thinking the doctor's report is "a mixed bag." That's insane. Trust me, if your kid has a brain tumor, the fact that he has nice hair or is a good speller or has made progress towards playing well with others is not going to even things out and leave you feeling upbeat and optimistic.

Bush is certifiably insane if he thinks this war is "winnable." It's not a game of Battleship. It's a civil war.

Bush also keeps making the erroneous connection between 911 and Iraq. All reliable intelligence points to the fact that Al-qaeda was not present in Iraq until WE made it a battleground.

A recent intelligence report points out that Al-Qaeda is stronger than ever. So the one thing that Bush is still credited by the American public for being good at is not his victory. It's his defeat. Bush sucks at beating the terrorists. He's just making them madder and stronger every day he stays in Iraq.
