Tonight, Bill and Hillary Clinton are appearing together in Iowa for the first time in many years. "Billary" is stopping in a series of Iowa cities including Des Moines, Davenport, Clear Lake and Cedar Rapids.
A friend who I worked with on the Gore campaign invited me to a private party tonight before the huge rally at the Fairgrounds. So, it looks like I'll finally get a chance to get my book signed.
The last time I saw Bill in person was in 2006 at the Iowa Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner. Before that, it was 1995 or 1996 when he came to Des Moines for a fundraiser for Senator Tom Harkin. He was extremely charming and gracious and stayed far past his alloted two hours to sign autographs and chat with the people. I'm sure he'll be equally charming tonight.
The Clinton campaign in Iowa is struggling against a strong Edwards showing, and now a fundraising embarrassment since the Obama campaign raised more money last quarter. So they're pulling out the big gun, otherwise known as Bill.
Hillary will benefit from the Bill boost, though she hardly needs him to turn out huge crowds. Last time she was here she drew a crowd of 5,000 people on a Saturday morning.
Come back later today and I'll report on the event tonight. I hope to snap a few photos, too.
