The Iowa Department of Economic Development, in cooperation with the Iowa governor's office, has created a new Web space for the media and presidential campaigns in Iowa to use. It's located at www.IowaCaucus.org. Check it out...it's an excellent resource for information about the caucuses and Iowa in general.
Most importantly, it proves Iowa takes the caucuses very seriously. Hosting all the presidential campaigns brings Iowa prestige and reserves a very special place in the national dialogue. If you're not from Iowa, you may be thinking..."What's so special about Iowa, and why do candidates value the "Iowa Experience?"
Iowa political organizations are very well organized, thanks to a strong state party structure and disciplined planning. County central committees play a crucial role as well, providing the candidates countless small gatherings to attend. A "green" candidate can test out his or her message on a relatively small group of people without worrying about too much media scrutiny. That is precisely why candidates come to Iowa ALL THE TIME...not just during the caucus cycle.
Starting the primary cycle in a large state first would not serve the candidates well, which is why most of them support starting in smaller states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. Their is an added benefit to candidates with smaller campaign budgets. You can run a grassroots effort in Iowa less expensively than in other states.
Iowa is committed to keeping the caucuses first, and has the infrastructure to do it right.
