Hidden in the news headlines yesterday was a seemingly innocuous announcement. Jim Nussle, former Iowa congressman and chairman of the House budget committee, is the Bush administration's new budget director.
I just about choked on my dinner when I read this quote on NewsMax.com:
"Jim's strong convictions about the need to restrain government spending ... will be crucial to this administration," said Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, top Republican on the House Budget Committee.
Under Nussle's watch, the federal budget surplus of $236 billion dollars was squandered and turned into a $412 billion dollar deficit at one point.
It sort of reminds me of Curious George putting Michael Brown in charge of FEMA. Could anyone be less qualified for the job???
