
Google just inked a deal with Iowa to build a gigantic data farm in Council Bluffs, Iowa, which is just east of Omaha, Nebraska. Little did I know when I innocently wrote this post in March that the deal was already happening.
Google's been in the news a lot lately. It seems that Google was steadily building its huge infrastructure without much public scrutiny, and suddenly, people woke up one day and said..."whoa, they are getting too powerful."
I am not scared of Google. I am scared of what the Bush administration, armed with the Patriot Act, might order Google to do with its data. We trust Google every day, because Google probably knows more about us than even our closest friend or spouse. People would pay big money for that information, and others would use it for more insidious purposes.
Our federal government has already proven untrustworthy with the mishandling of the Patriot Act, and I sure as hell don't trust them to stay out of my computer. I hope Google, my new Iowa neighbor, protects me and my family from Big Brother.
