My Elephantic counterpart, Bill Hobbs, posted a fascinating factoid on Elephant Biz today. The National Senatorial Campaign Committee has issued a 39-page book on how to maximize the Republican blogosphere.
Bill knows what I know. Only 13% of all Americans read blogs, but 20% of all "influencers" read them. An influencer is a "sneezer," someone who takes all the tidbits of information they know about and sneezes it like a virus, passing it on to all their friends and aquantainces.
So, blogs are great sources to start rumors (true or not). But think of some of the juicy political stories that brewed in the blogosphere for days and even weeks before the mainstream media got a hold of them. Among them...Monica Lewinsky on Drudge (not quite a blog but sorta), the swiftboat Dan Rather scandal on numerous blogs.
Members of the mainstream media use the blogosphere to get ideas, comment and bounce things off of others to see where the idea goes.
So, will the republican candidates trust its own blogosphere to report on the real stories???

What was the "swiftboat Dan Rather scandal" ?
The Dan Rather scandal that involved the blogosphere was his use of forged and false documents to slander the president with lies. The swiftboat story is unrelated to that.
